MIDDLETOWN — Police arrested three township men – two for for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery and one for assaulting an officer – Friday evening.
Sean Leavy, 20, Brookside Drive in the Belford Section and Carlos Ortiz III, 22, Montana Ave. Port Monmouth, were arrested and charged with variety of offenses, including burglary, robbery, theft, aggravated assault, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a handgun and illegal possession of a variety of prescription medications, according to det. Lt. Stephen Dollinger.
At approximately 6:25 p.m., police responded to a 911 call about a robbery at a Bonafacio Court residence. Victims told police that two men entered the home with a handgun, threatened the occupants and strike one of the occupants in the head with the gun. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and prescriptions and fled the scene on foot. The victims told police they knew the suspects and were able to provide descriptions and names.
About 20 minutes later, an officer saw two men on Bray Avenue in North Middletown who matched the descriptions given to them. Police took Ortiz into custody at that time.
The second suspect eluded police on foot. About 40 minutes later police received a phone call about a suspicious person in a resident’s backyard, which resulted in Leavy’s arrest.
Police also arrested Daniel Milford, 22, Bray Avenue, and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, obstructing the administration of law, resisting arrest and drug related offenses.
Police said Milford was not involved with the robbery but allegedly assaulted the officers when they took the other two suspects into custody.
Leavy and Ortiz were being held on $500,000 bail each; Milford’s bail was set at $150,000.
