Mighty Mites Take on RFH Varsity

The Rumson-Fair Haven Youth Football’s Mighty Mites (8 and 9 year olds) took on the RFH Varsity football squad in its annual pre- season “fun” scrimmage at Borden Field at RFH on August 21. The annual tradition serves to unite the different generations in a fun atmosphere, and allows for the younger kids to line up and run and defend plays against the Varsity letterman.

It’s a wonderful experience for the boys as they can enjoy the game they are working so hard at with the role models they watch under the Friday night lights.
The game serves as a break during the hot August Training Camp. It’s also an opportunity for the Bulldogs to give back to the young ones, who were once Mighty Mites themselves. There’s a strong football culture in Rumson-Fair Haven and the several American Youth Football (AYF) levels under high school serve to prepare kids through advanced instruction while learning the playbook and nuances of the game.
They also enjoy playing at the beautiful RFH facility with all of the pageantry of the game built in and with AYF league assigned referees. The cheerleaders and football players run through smoke and a pre-game banner with music pumping through the stadium speakers and play in front of cheerleaders and home and visiting crowds.
Most importantly, they represent Rumson-Fair Haven as they compete against neighboring towns and rivals. Something they will do for many years to come, and the spirit of this fun scrimmage sets the tone for all of this.
