MJK Day Celebration to be Held Jan. 21 at Pilgrim Church

RED BANK – Pilgrim Baptist Church of Red Bank will host at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, a Community Commemorative Celebration of the Life and Legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The event will feature the musical and performing arts talents of students from the Red Bank Regional High School, Red Bank School District, Red Bank Charter School, Brookdale Community College and Two Rivers Theater.
Winners of the Dr. King essay contest and the recipient of the Living Legend Com­munity Service Award will be announced during the celebration.
The guest speaker for the event will be Dr. James Harris, state president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the former dean of students at Montclair State University.
Prior to the celebration, the community is invited to view the presidential inauguration festivities in the lower auditorium of Pilgrim Baptist Church. Refreshments will be served. Doors will open at 11 a.m.
The celebration is a community collaborative initiative of the Pilgrim Baptist Church, City of Red Bank, NAACP, Brookdale Community College, Aslan Ministry, Center for Holocaust, Human Rights and Genocide Education (C.H.H.A.N.G.E.), Two River Theater, Red Bank Men’s Club, Red Bank RiverCenter, Red Bank Affordable Housing Corporation, Meridian Health System, Lunch Break, Igelesia La Mano Dios, YMCA of Red Bank, Red Bank schools and local houses of worship.
A free-will offering will be received.
Proceeds will support additional collaborative initiatives throughout the year.
