The Monmouth Council, Boy Scouts of America, will honor Joseph J. Sarno, Jr., executive vice president of CBRE, a real estate services company, at its Saturday, Nov. 8, Gala Under the Stars at the Navesink Country Club.
The gala is the preeminent development and community black-tie event of the year with hundreds of top community and business leaders attending. Timothy J. Hogan, regional president of Bayshore Community Hospital and Riverview Medical Center who was last year’s honoree, serves as the gala chair.
Sarno will be recognized for his outstanding record of community service and participating citizenship with the 41st Annual Joshua Huddy Distinguished Citizen Award.
Sarno exemplifies leadership at the highest level, while remaining highly active with the troops, Monmouth Council Scout Executive Lee Marconi said.
“This award reflects Joe’s dedication to Scouting and his community, and to the development of youth throughout Central New Jersey,” Marconi said. “He is an ardent supporter of the Scouting mission and the impact Scouting has on young people in character and leadership development, personal fitness and citizenship training. Joe’s enthusiasm and commitment have been phenomenal.”
In addition to serving as an executive board member for more than 10 years, Sarno has held several executive posts, including vice chairman for the Joshua Huddy Award Dinner, and also as a member of the Scout Golf Classic Committee. “I am much honored they chose me for the award,” said Sarno, a Monmouth County resident. “This is very close to my heart as my son is an Eagle Scout, and a graduate of Monmouth University, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see how Scouting has helped him develop leadership skills. Many of the most influential and successful people in America have participated in Scouting programs. It is a positive experience for youth and teaches them vital lessons which help them through their lives.”
Jeffrey Hipschman, CBRE’s senior managing director of New Jersey and a Scoutmaster himself, reiterated CBRE’s commitment. “We are very proud of Joe’s accomplishments and commitment to the Boy Scouts in Central New Jersey.”
All proceeds from the gala benefit Monmouth Council, which serves more than 10,000 youth and leaders throughout Central New Jersey, including Monmouth and Southern Middlesex Counties.
