LONG BRANCH – Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and it is most curable when diagnosed early.
In an effort to help identify those who may be at high-risk for developing lung cancer, the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, will offer a free lung cancer education and screening event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Ave.
All are invited to participate in the Lung Cancer Education and Screening event. Those who meet the following criteria – between the ages of 45 and 74, a current smoker or a former smoker who quit smoking within the past 15 years – may also be eligible to participate in one of Monmouth Medical Center’s two lung cancer research studies and receive a low-dose CT lung scan, at no cost to the participant.
The event also will include spirometry screening, a basic lung function test and information about Monmouth Medical Center’s smoking cessation program and support group. Physicians will provide information on lung cancer, including its signs and symptoms and treatment options. Members of Monmouth’s Lung Cancer Screening and Lung Nodule Program will be on-site to assess participant eligibility for those who are interested in the Research Study.
For more than 40 years, the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center has broadened its leadership role in oncology services through the ongoing expansion of state-of-the-art programs and technologies offered in many areas of cancer prevention, detection, treatment and ongoing after-care.
