Ethel McBride Moran, 82, of Middletown and Naples, Florida, passed away suddenly at home after a short illness on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Full of life and fun times, she had no time for illness or being fussed over, she would rather be enjoying life with her friends and family, whether on the golf course, at the bridge table, or enjoying lively conversation at the dinner table.
Ethel was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, one of six children. She graduated from Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio, and went on to teach English and history at Cleveland Heights High before getting married and starting a family.
On December 29, 1956, she married Patrick Moran, the love of her life and husband of 59 years. Together, they raised four children, traveled the world, played golf, and shared many, cherished experiences.
In 1972, a new job for Patrick brought the family to Rumson, starting a new chapter in her life. Ethel enjoyed easy access to the arts in New York, summers on the Jersey shore, and she treasured the many friends she made.
Her charitable activities included fundraising for the ARC of Monmouth, teaching CCD, and supporting the Bobby Nichols Foundation of Fort Myers, Florida. She was an avid reader, a devoted fan of opera, and had a love of history that continued throughout her life. She found great satisfaction (and some frustration) doing the New York Times crossword puzzle ever yday.
Ethel was 40-year member of the Rumson Country Club, serving as Club Historian. In conjunction with the club’s centennial, she oversaw the writing of a history of the club and a companion DVD. She was a past member of the Seabright Beach Club and Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Patrick Moran; her son, Charles Moran of Middletown; her daughter, Kathleen and husband, Michael Walsh of Fair Haven; her son, David and his wife Carmen Moran of Holly Springs, North Carolina; and her son, Edward of Middletown. She was the beloved grandmother to Patrick Moran III, Ryan Walsh, Kevin Walsh, Tess Moran, Claire Walsh and Evan Moran. Also surviving is her brother, George McBride of Cleveland, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
