M’Town Police Investigating Fatal Traffic Accident

MIDDLETOWN – Town­ship police are continuing to investigate a traffic fatality at a Route 36 intersection that occurred last weekend.
Police said, that while information about the collision was still limited, they know that at 8:06 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, a vehicle traveling south on the highway struck and killed a female pedestrian. The woman was crossing the road at the Wilson Avenue intersection, located in the township’s Port Monmouth section.
Detective Lt. Stephen Dollinger, a police spokes­man, identified the victim as Erica L. Hamdan, 31, a Port Monmouth resident. Hamdan was crossing the intersection with another pedestrian, who was not identified, when she was struck, Dollinger said.
Police identified the driver as Jordan E. Bishop, 23, Long Branch.
Emergency personnel treated Hamdan at the scene, transporting her to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, where she was pronounced dead at 8:54 p.m., according to Dollinger.
Police and emergency personnel closed a portion of the highway to traffic for approximately two hours, the spokesman said.
