Murphy, Robert “Chiefie”, Age: 80, Middletown

495

Robert “Chiefie” Murphy, 80, Middletown, died Aug. 10 doing what he loved best – riding his Harley Trike. He had a massive heart attack on a bike ride to Boston with two of his best friends and rode softly off the road.

Bob is survived by his wife Eileen; sister Paulette; children Scott “Ribbit” Jeffery (Vicki), Kelly “Ribbit” Gorczyca (Craig), Heather “Ribbit” Orabone (Kevin); and six awesome grandkids: Emma, Molly, Cullen, Tyler, Cole and Kate, all of whom he adored.

Bob was predeceased by his parents Pauline and Robert “Pop” Murphy and granddogs Auggie and Maverick.

He was born in Virginia and settled with his parents in Belford. Bob graduated from Leonardo High School in 1956, attended Monmouth College and worked at his father’s Campbell’s Junction Getty Station. When his father retired the station, Bob joined the Middletown Township Police Department at the ripe old age of 35, rising to the rank of sergeant and retiring in 2003.

Retirement was spent on the Harley with his many great friends at Ocean Thunder in Lakewood and Jersey Shore Hog at Shoreline Harley in Long Branch.

Hope my family has a wonderful time at Disney. – Ribbit

Robert reposed at the Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, Middletown, Aug. 14. A private cremation took place the following day.

In lieu of flowers Bob wished people to donate to their favorite charity, pay it forward and remember the Troop.
