LINCROFT – Renowned historian and artist, Nell Irvin Painter, will give a free public presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Center for the Visual Arts gallery at Brookdale Community College.
Community members are invited to meet with the artist and learn about Painter’s unique approach to painting, digital artistry and self-reflection.
“We could not be more excited to offer this rare opportunity to hear from and interact with an educator, writer and artist as brilliant as professor Painter,” Brookdale art instructor Amy Faris said.
A former Princeton University professor and a leading voice among American historians, Painter also has established a noteworthy career as an artist in recent years.
She is a former Guggenheim fellow, American Academy of Arts and Sciences fellow and a National Endowment for the Humanities award winner.
She served as a Fulbright Scholar in the United Kingdom in 2011, and her work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions across New York and New Jersey.
The presentation is part of Brookdale’s Visiting Artist Program, which is sponsored by private donations and a grant from the Monmouth County Arts Council.
Painter also will host a two-hour private workshop with Brookdale art students on Dec. 4 as part of the program.
