Robert Carl Nelson, DVM, 86, was born to Betty and Carl Nelson in Bronxville, N.Y. He was known as Bobby, and the eldest of two children.

Bob graduated Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine and went on to serve in the United States Air Force Vet Corps. While stationed in England he met and married his lovely wife, Patricia. After completing his military career, Bob went on to follow his passion by practicing veterinary medicine.

Ultimately purchasing Monmouth Animal Hospital in Little Silver, Bob successfully built up the hospital from a one doctor to a four doctor practice. After 35+ years of compas-sionate care for our communities four-legged friends “Doc” retired.

While retired, he continued to be a member of the Red Bank Lions Club and Beacon Hill Country Club. An avid supporter of many organizations including Cornell and the Monmouth County ASPCA, his love for animals was a force throughout his lifetime.

If he enjoyed anything as much as his family and caring for animals, it would be his love of tent camping on the islands of Lake George or playing a round of golf with his many friends.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Pat; their two children, Ian and Avril; his three grandsons, Cody, Charles and Darius; his brother, Bill, and his children, Liz andLarry.

We could not post this without mentioning the love and support of Bob’s many cherished friends. Enjoy those big beautiful golf courses in the sky!

A celebration of Bob’s life was held at John E. Day Funeral home, Red Bank, on Tuesday, January 19.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, www.michaeljfox.org.
