HOLMDEL – The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation (NJVVMF) will host from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, “Memories of a Combat Medic in Vietnam,” an afternoon with Vietnam veteran and author, Jack “Doc” Manick.
The event will be held at the Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center, 1 Memorial Lane at Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway.
Manick, a Colonia resident, will share his experiences as an Army combat medic in Vietnam in 1969 and read excerpts from his recent books “Incoming” (2010) and “Incoming…The Men of the 70th” (2013).
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the author.
“Many wounded survived during the Vietnam War thanks to critical advances in medical procedures performed on the battlefield,” said Sarah Hagarty, foundation curator. “Combat medics, like Jack Manick, were referred to as ‘Docs’ and their life-saving contributions reunited countless veterans with their families.”
Manick volunteered for military service in 1968. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam as a combat medic, spending the remainder of his three-year obligation in hospital and infantry duty in Germany and the U.S. His military service was with the 1st and 24th Infantry Divisions, the 70th Combat Engineers and U.S. Army Europe.
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, and free for veterans and active military personnel.
