Joseph Nugent Jr., 79, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday, June 22. Joseph was a general partner of the brokerage firm of Mabon, Nugent & Co. in New York, retiring in 1991.

Joe was a graduate of Riverdale Country Day School in 1955. He received his bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in 1959 and an honorary doctorate in 1991. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Bay Head. Joe served his country with the US Marine Reserves. He was a board member of the Marymount Manhattan College; a member of the board of trustees of Riverview Medical Center Foundation; a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and the Bay Head Yacht Club. Joe was well known for the stories that he loved to tell. He was also a proud and active member of The Howe Street 3 PM Beach Group. He was an avid fisherman, boater and golfer. He also enjoyed woodworking and travel. Joe was also a huge New York Giants and Villanova Basketball fan.

Joe was predeceased by his first wife, Valerie Maxwell Nugent; and two sisters, Joan Nugent O’Leary and Barbara Nugent Bovers. He is survived by his wife, Joan Tildesley Nugent; sons, Mark and wife Melissa Nugent of Short Hills, Gregory and wife Mary Nugent of North Bethesda, Maryland and Arthur and wife Susan “Peeka” Tildesley of Fair Haven; daughters, Jill Tildesley of New York City, Lauren and husband Kevin McDonough of Fair Haven and Susan Strasser of Rumson; sister, Constance Nugent McQuade of Spring Lake; eight grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-grandchild.

Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
