FAIR HAVEN – Federal authorities, working with Monmouth County law enforcement and borough and Wall police, arrested a Staten Island, N.Y., man authorities say was responsible for an armed robbery at a borough business in June.
FBI agents, investigators from the county prosecutor’s office and Wall officers took Robert Fiolka, 68, into custody on Aug. 31 and charged him with the June 2 armed robbery of Blue Stove Antiques, 769 River Road.
According to Fair Haven police, the FBI issued a warrant for Fiolka’s arrest, charged him with robbery and arrested him at his Staten Island apartment.
Fiolka is currently being held in federal custody, and is a suspect in other offenses the FBI is investigating, according to detective Steven Schneider.
Police at the time of the incident said the robber was wearing a disguise and carrying a stainless steel revolver. After demanding the storeowner open a safe, the robber dumped its contents into a gym bag.
Police said the safe contained watches and jewelry, but they and the owner would not comment on the value. The storeowner acknowledge after the robbery what was taken was worth “a great deal.”
