After a 13 year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Marie A. O’Connell, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Feb. 25 surrounded by her loving husband of 62 years and family.

She raised her six children before attending New York School of Interior Design and worked as an interior designer, retiring from Brielle Furniture in 1996. A kind and gentle person with a sense of style and grace, cleaver sense of humor, a love for history and art, a New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers fan, a fabulous cook and elegant entertainer for family and friends that created a happy, welcoming, and loving home for all.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Rhoda Allen; and brother, William Allen.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel D. O’Connell; her six children, their spouses and eight grandchildren. Marie’s children and spouses include: Diane (Dee) West and Rich West of Tinton Falls, Kevin and Katie O’Connell of Yardley, Pennsylvania, Carol O’Connell and Ran French of Eatontown, Tom and Christine O’Connell of East Greenbush, New York, Katie and Mark Schultz of Rumson and Peter O’Connell of Rumson. Marie’s grandchildren include: Bill and Jeff West of Philadelphia, Pennslyvania, Kaelyn O’Connell of Boston, Massachusetts, Caroline Schultz of Rumson, Liam and Erin O’Connell of Yardley, Pennsylvania, and Mackenzie and Kieran O’Connell of West Long Branch.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Regional Office, 3 Eves Dr., Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053. Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
