Dorothy M. Patterson Ball, 92, of Lincroft, passed away on
Wednesday, October 14 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born in Phalanx. She
graduated from Red Bank High School in 1942 and the Ann May School of Nursing of Fitkin
Memorial Hospital in Neptune in 1947. She worked as a registered
nurse doing private duty and general duty at local hospitals and later as a public health nurse in
Red Bank, Rumson and Sea Bright. She took numerous courses at
Monmouth College, Jersey City State College and Montclair State
Teachers College to better aid her competency as a public health nurse. She loved her patients and they loved her.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Omar F. Ball; and her parents,
William F. Patterson and Eva H. Patterson; her brothers, Vernon M.
Patterson, William F. Patterson Jr. and Robert A. Patterson; and her sisters,
Eva J. Tibbals and Pauline V. Fehlhaber. She is survived by many nieces
and nephews. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Dr. O. French Ball
of Oberlin, Ohio, and Rita Ball Nash of Appalachia, Va.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 16 at the John E. Day Funeral
Home, Red Bank. A funeral service was offered at the funeral home on
Saturday, October 17. The Reverend Russ Jones of the The First Baptist
Church of Red Bank officiated. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery in
