FAIR HAVEN – The Knights of Columbus Council 3187 will hold its third Special Needs Social from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Knights Hall on Fair Haven Road.
The social will be hosted by special needs ambassadors from the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation (CVR). KellyKares will be providing sensory-friendly activities and games. The event is funded by the Jay Dooley Memorial Foundation (JDMF) and held as part of an ongoing collaborative initiative to increase the socialization opportunities for people with special needs in Central New Jersey.
“From the beginning our goal has been to create sustained social opportunities for individuals with special needs in our area,” said Travis Johnson, marketing and activities coordinator at CVR. “It started with the Knights of Columbus Council 3187 graciously donating their hall and supporting us with volunteers. It has been fueled by the special needs CVR ambassadors taking such pride in setting up the events.
“Now, with the continued financial support of the Jay Dooley Memorial Foundation, we are able to plan more exciting events in the coming months,” Johnson said. “Also, Kelly Booth, founder of KellyKares, will be taking over as director of our socials held at the Knights Hall in Fair Haven, which will allow us to expand even more.”
In addition to live music and sensory-friendly activities and games, the social will include dancing and light refreshments.
“Our council has been excited about the continued growth of these events,” said Mile Svikhart, president of Knights of Columbus Council 3187. “The amazing support by our members is a testament to the type of men that make up Council 3187. Our fellow Knights contribute time, donations and compassion to each social and we look forward to continuing to do so in the future.”
Entry is free and open to people with special needs, age 15 and older. Space is limited, so those attending are asked to RSVP by Monday, Feb. 17.
Additional information and reservations are available by contacting Johnson by email at tjohnson@cvrus.org or calling 732-544-1800, ext. 230.
