Paint the Town Pink kicks off its 8th season of raising awareness and money for mammography
If you have lived or worked in Monmouth County over the last eight years you are probably no stranger to the pink hue that is cast upon the surrounding towns each May, as year after year businesses, community groups, and volunteers alike find unique ways to paint their town pink.
Entering into its eighth year, Paint the Town Pink raises awareness of the importance of annual mammography and raises money to provide mammograms to uninsured or underinsured women in the community. Now in more than 30 towns, Paint the Town Pink will present another bigger and pinker event in 2014.
Everyone has a reason for getting involved in Paint the Town Pink and an example of how they have “Pinked it Forward.”  Some people have accompanied a scared friend to a mammogram appointment, convinced someone they love to get a mammogram, scheduled their own mammogram, attended an event, raised money, or more. Whatever the reason, Paint the Town Pink organizers encourage everyone to continue to Pink it Forward to help spread the message of annual mammography.
Here are just a few examples of how to Pink it Forward this May:
Attend an event. From educational lectures and panel events with expert physicians, communitywide, family-focused events, and an annual Girls Night Out and Party for Pink, there is sure to be an event this May that will appeal to everyone.  The first event – Pink Your Ride Day – will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Monmouth Mall and Ocean County Mall and will provide an opportunity to make the mission mobile for a chance to win cool prizes.
Visit the Pink Partners.  Look for especially pink décor throughout town as you shop and dine. Many of the pink partners go above and beyond displaying a bow and offer pink promotions and specials, which is their way of “pinking it forward.”
Get Your Mammogram. Or talk to a woman you love about making her mammogram appointment. Schedule an appointment at one of Meridian’s Women’s Centers during the month of May and you may enjoy a little extra pink pampering.
Share your story. If you’ve done something to help spread the message of annual mammography, share your stories and photos with at Facebook.com/PaintTheTownPinkNJ.  (Be sure to use #PinkitForward.)
