ABOUT 500 PEOPLE turned out for Little Silver’s festive Spring Sports Parade and fair Saturday.
Lacrosse, softball, and baseball players marched in team uniforms. They were led by the Little Silver Police and Fire Departments on a route from the firehouse to the Borough Hall. Since the 2016 girls softball season is dedicated to promoting “Breast Cancer  Awareness” all softball players sported their ‘pink ribbon’ visors and socks and called themselves by ‘pink’ team names such as the “ P i n k Terminators” and “Pink Pandas.”
At a ceremony following the parade, town officials gave the “Little Silver Spirit Award” to Kathleen Hoffman who is retiring after coaching for over 15 years. Coach Hoffman has coached all girls’ rec sports including lacrosse which she was instrumental in starting eight years ago.
Also honored were the breast cancer survivors, whose continued good health were celebrated.
Participating parade sponsor, Care to Give, affiliated with Riverview Medical Center, painted the town pink and offered free pink lemonade.

The kids enjoyed hot dogs, lemonade, ice pops, games and bouncing around on huge sports inflatables.

“Wonderful, small town America at its best,” said Doug Glassmacher of the Little Silver Director of Recreation, which organized the event. “Everyone enjoyed it.”
