The National Weather Service has posted a flood watch for the Monmouth County area and much of New Jersey through 2 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the weather service, showers and scattered thunderstorms are predicted through the afternoon and tonight. That follows heavy downpours this morning.
Many areas are expected to get rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts.
“Stream levels remain high as a result of Friday’s heavy rainfall. Therefore, there is a heightened potential for flooding in the region,” according to the weather service warning.
