TINTON FALLS – Ranney School has named Tom Moriau as its new director of alumni relations, a position that is vital to the future growth of Ranney School, according to Head of School Dr. John W. Griffith.
“With his longstanding relationships with alumni and the respect he has earned from years of successful leadership as director of athletics, Tom is the ideal choice for this position,” Griffith said. “It is no secret that Tom holds a special place in the hearts of our alumni, as he has developed a strong bond with hundreds of Panthers for more than 26 years. With Tom’s direction, the school will develop innovative and meaningful programming that will encourage a lifelong active relationship between Ranney School and its more than 1,700 alumni.”
Ranney School, an independent day school in Monmouth County, serves more than 800 students from beginners (age 3) to grade 12.
Moriau will lead the development of a new Ranney Alumni Council, time-honored traditions such as the alumni homecoming and reunion weekend, the athletic hall of fame, alumni events nationwide and key new initiatives such as alumni networking programs and career mentoring. Importantly, he will strategically connect alumni with each other and to the school in innovative new ways.
He will remain closely involved in the search for a new director of athletics and continue to be an integral part of the school’s sports program as director of athletics emeritus. He will also continue to lead the school’s girls’ basketball program. Moriau’s contributions to the advancement of athletics and to the lives of students for more than a quarter century are evident.
Emmett Walling, director of aquatics at Ranney School for more than 34 years and close friend said, “Tom is a team builder and has worked diligently to develop a strong athletic and physical education program at Ranney School. I am very pleased to see Tom’s hard work as athletic director for the past 26 years recognized and rewarded, and I congratulate him on his new position. Because he is a team builder, Tom is the perfect choice for this important position, and I am confident that he will be very successful at bringing more of our alumni back to reconnect with our growing Ranney School community.”
Last year, Moriau achieved a record of more than 400 wins as the Panthers’ Varsity Girls Basketball Team coach, a position he has held since 2001. In addition, as head softball coach (since 1989), head boys’ basketball coach (1993-2001), and director of summer camp, he has impacted countless children and families and has also led the school’s 21st century vision for the scholar-athlete.
Moriau was the recipient of the 2005 Prep Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to the New Jersey Patriot Conference Championship. In 2013, Ranney’s first season with the Shore Conference, he was honored as the Coach of the Year for the B Central Division. He has also served as president of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA). During the fall, he was inducted into the Panther Athletic Hall of Fame.
