TINTON FALLS – After just three years of rowing, Ranney School’s Crew Team qualified earlier this month for the finals and semifinals at the U.S. Rowing Mid-Atlantic District Junior Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor.
The Panthers’ showing was praised by coaches Christine Cicero and Josh Prown.
“It truly is amazing how much we have accomplished over our last three years of sweep rowing and I know that we will continue to get better and better each season,” Cicero said.
The Panthers Women’s Varsity Lightweight Four reached the finals with captain and coxswain Jessica Nicholson, (Class of 2014) and rowers Cassandra Kalinowski (’15), Jennifer Wicks (’16), Rachel Staats (’16) and Grace Economou (’16).
Senior Jessica Nicholson finished her sentimental last race blinking back tears of joy, congratulating her teammates on a job well done.
Powered on by chants of “go blue, go”, the men’s second varsity four completed their semifinal race just 4 seconds short of the final. Racing for the team were coxswain Francesca Lionetti (’16), and rowers Max Williams (’16), Brandon Gioggia (’16), Ali Sarhan (’17) and Grant Barthelmes (’17).
