The National Association for Music Education recognized Ranney School’s Junior Tri-M Honor Society as its 2011-2012 Tri-M Chapter of the Year in the Junior Division.
The Ranney School will receive a letter and plaque from The National Association for Music Education, a feature in the August edition of Teaching Music magazine, as well as the National Association for Music Education website. The chapter will also receive an $800 check.
“The Music Department is looking forward to putting this funding to good use in further developing music education opportunities for our Middle School students,” said Head of the Middle School David Fischer.
This is not the first time the Ranney School has received this distinction. In 2009, the chapter won the Chapter of the Year award.
“Being as this recognition has been offered to Ranney’s chapter of the Jr. Tri-M for a number of consecutive years, it highlights the outstanding quality and dedication of our Music Department – specifically of Mrs. Torrente, the chapter’s adviser,” Fischer said.
This past year the society, led by Jr. Tri-M Adviser Lillianne Torrente, the music Honor Society and its members, organized two service projects including a “Toys for Tots” fundraiser that collected 150 music-related toys to benefit the children’s charity.
The Society also hosted “Music in Our Schools Week” where students held multiple events to raise awareness of music education.
The student officers who worked side by side with Mrs. Torrente to complete several projects through this year’s Jr. Tri-M Music Honor Society were President Ruchi Raval of Colts Neck, Vice President Sana Zaidi of Morganville, Secretary Nikhil Lakhani from Wall, Historian Sallie Haas of Deal, Treasurer Shruthi Vaidyaselvan of Marlboro, Internet Officer Tessa Payer of Wall, Public Relations Officer Megan Singh of Colts Neck, Programs and Events Officer Audra Smires of Freehold and Communications Officer Kyra Citron of Brielle.
