RED BANK – The application for a 76-room, six-story Hampton Inn hotel at the northern entrance of the borough has been postponed until July 15, according to the borough’s Planning and Zoning Department.
Board members were expected to hear the application at Monday night’s meeting but a postponement was required when the applicant’s attorney was unable to attend the session.
This application is another go-around for the proposed hotel, which attracted controversy when approval was first sought two years ago. The proposal met with opposition and lawsuits from a borough resident and the owners of a Tinton Falls hotel. They raise issues of size, height and the commercial use adjacent to any area that is mostly residential and argued over whether the application should be heard by the planning board or zoning board of adjustment.
The hotel is proposed for a long-vacant site overlooking the Swimming River on the corner of Rector Place and Route 35.
