Red Bank Police Investigating Head-on Collision on Newman Springs Road

RED BANK – Borough police are investigating a head-on collision that occurred at 2:11 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, on Newman Springs Road in the area of Lehigh Avenue.
A moving van and a minivan collided “after the minivan apparently crossed into the oncoming lane for yet unknown reasons,” according to a press release prepared by Red Bank Police Capt. Darren McConnell.
Both drivers and two passengers in the moving van were injured. The minivan driver, an 18-year-old Little Silver man, was flown by medivac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center with serious injuries. The other driver, a 28-year-old Eatontown man, and his passengers were taken to Riverview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The minivan was traveling eastbound on Newman Springs Road and the moving van was traveling westbound when the collision occurred, police said.
Sgt. Errico Vescio, Sgt. Michael Furlong and patrolman Beau Broadly of the police department’s traffic bureau are investigating the crash. The monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the county prosecutor;s office are assisting in the investigation.
