RED BANK – The police department is investigating an armed burglary that occurred at about 2 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, on Tower Hill Drive.
Two victims came to police headquarters and reported that five men, at least two of whom were armed with handguns, broke into their Tower Hill Drive home. The 21-year-old male victim was hit on the head with a handgun while the 20-year-old female victim was peppered sprayed and threatened with a gun, according to Capt. Darren McConnell.
The suspects then searched the home for valuables and took a small safe, a watch belonging to the woman and two cellphones. The safe contained an unspecified amount of money and personal papers.
The suspects fled the scene but were followed by the victims in their vehicle. The victims got the license plate number of the white Ford Explorer and followed the vehicle to Branch Avenue where it is believed that one of the suspect’s fired a single shot at the victims’ car. The victims then stopped following the car and drove to police headquarters where they gave police a report and description of the men.
The Explorer was stopped about two hours later by Keansburg police but it was being driven by a woman, police said.
The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone with information to contact Sgt. Michael Fazee at the Red Bank Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-530-2700.
