RED BANK – The second time around found a buyer for the borough-owned White Street former firehouse.
During the borough’s second attempt to hold a public auction for the more than a century old structure and property, held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, officials received the asking price $400,000, Borough Administrator Stanley Sickels said.
Michael Morgan, 60 Broad St., was the lone bidder for the site, Sickels said. Morgan presented the borough with a $60,000 certified check for a deposit.
“No official plans were discussed,” Sickels said. “The general idea is to do improvements to the building and find a tenant.”
Officials attempted to hold an auction on the site on March 25  with an asking price of $450,000 but received no offers.
The slightly more than 2,700 square-foot structure was built in 1910 and sits on a 0.0918-acre property.
The brick building had been home to Liberty Hose fire company until the building’s deteriorating condition necessitated a move, with the fire company and equipment relocated to borough’s first aid building, 151 Spring St.
