Region Braces for Blustery Blizzard

A major, high-impact blizzard is heading our way that could dump 1-2 feet of snow in the Two Rivers region by Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Blizzard Warning for coastal Monmouth from noon Monday through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
As shoppers jammed supermarkets Sunday for provisions, authorities issued alerts to residents reminding residents to move cars into driveways for snowplows. Some schools announced closures and many announced early dismissal on Monday, ahead of the heavier snow expected Monday night into Tuesday.
According to the forecast from the National Weather Service, the Red Bank area may see 1-3 inches of snow on Monday. On Tuesday, there will be periods of strongly gusting winds and heavy snow. The area could see 18-24 inches of snow by the end of the storm on Tuesday afternoon.
With the potential threat of heavy snow and 40-50 mph strong winds knocking out power Monday night, JCP&L took to Twitter to inform customers that it has already activated its storm restoration plan. Additional line and forestry crews are on standby, said the utility.
The following private schools announced closures: Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft; Mater Dei Prep and Trinity Hall in Middletown; and St. John Vianney in Holmdel. There will be early dismissal at Red Bank Catholic in Red Bank, Mother Teresa Regional in Atlantic Highlands, Monmouth University and Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.
Among public schools systems announcing early dismissal for Monday with announcements on their homepages are Middletown, Hazlet, Union Beach, Keyport, Holmdel, Red Bank, Red Bank Charter School, Oceanport, Atlantic Highlands, Monmouth Beach and Little Silver,
As of Monday morning at 7:24 a.m., Shrewsbury Borough Schools had not called for early dismissal, saying officials will monitor conditions and contact parents with any change.
Rumson schools have cancelled a PARCC Parent Workshop, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday.
Garbage pickup in Red Bank has also been suspended for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monmouth County government is advising residents to check on neighbors, charge cell phones, check the batteries in flashlights and “follow” their local officials online for updates.
