Resident Thanks American Legion Post 143

To the Editor:
Through your newspaper, I would like to thank everyone from American Legion Post 143 in Highlands for the wonderful benefit Fish Fry they held for my benefit last week. I’d like to thank the members of the American Legion, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Sons of Liberty and all my family and friends who not only made me feel alive and happy at the dinner, but also contributed so much to help me meet all the bills I have been facing.
Since I started going blind last September, I have spent nearly two weeks in Newark University Hospital, where, in spite of wonderful physicians and technicians, and very sophisticated equipment and tests, no one has been able to find a cause for my condition, therefore, no cure for it.
My husband and I have still not recuperated from Super Storm Sandy.  Since, although we are both lifelong residents of Highlands we did not own a home, we are now living in Hazlet, but still consider Highlands our real home. I work at the American Legion post home and the friendship and consideration given me by so many friends, veterans, and wounded warriors there means even so much more than all the funds they raised to help us at this awful time in our lives. My husband and I and our children are deeply grateful.
