RUMSON – A 20-minute second-half power failure during the A Division Central game between unbeaten Rumson-Fair Haven and Monmouth Regional didn’t slow down the Bulldogs as they built a 35-6 lead and held off a late Monmouth rally for a 35-20 victory.
Tailback Charlie Volker had another big game for the Bulldogs with four touchdowns, giving him six for the season. Volker ended up rushing for 181 yards on 21 carries.
Sophomore quarterback Mike O’Connor scored the other Rumson touchdown.
The game set up an early season showdown Thursday, Oct. 2, (after ***ITALTwo River Times***END press time) as Rumson plays host to unbeaten St. John Vianney.
