OYSTER BAY, NY: On a cold and rainy day in Long Island, the RFH Rowing crew had a record day. Competing in a regatta with 488 entries and 42 different clubs, RFH Rowing won 7 medals overall including 5 Gold medals and two Bronze on May 1.
The Men’s Varsity Quad, with Seniors Brendan Edwards, Sheridan Camarata and bowman Ben Cooper, battled in a fiercely contested late race, coming on strong in the last 250 meters to capture a hard-fought Bronze Medal. Also in the Varsity ranks, the Women’s Varsity 4 won their flight by multiple boat lengths to earn the Gold Medal, including Senior Captain Maren Gierlatowicz in ‘the engine room’ Two Seat.

Not to be outdone, the JV athletes also shone through on the windy, rainy day. The Men’s Junior Varsity 4 won their third regatta in a row as they captured Gold by a boat length. Coxswaine Taylor Glassman guided her crew stroked by Ryan Kearney at stroke, with Nicholas Bermeo in the 3 seat, Edward Osmulski in the 2 seat, and Dawson Epstein in the bow seat.
The Women’s Junior Varsity 4 won Gold and the boat’s coxswain, Senior Captain Bram Bruno, earned his second medal of the day having also steered the Women’s Varsity 4 to a medal six races earlier. Adding to the JV palmares, the newly formed Junior Varsity Quad excelled as they rowed for only their second time together to earn an fourth place position, ensuring that all RFH Rowing entries finished Top 4 or better on the day.
Finally, in an impressive fashion reflecting the strength of the RFH Rowing program, the team’s first year Novice rowers brought home three medals in three tries. Strong showings by the Women’s Novice 4 (Gold) and the Men’s Novice Quad (Bronze) helped star t RFH’s great day of racing, followed by the Men’s Novice 4 rowing a regatta-best Novice 4 race to capture Gold, defeating all 23 other entries across multiple heats.
This was a record setting day for RFH Rowing with 5 Gold and 7 overall medals marking an all-time high for one regatta.
