RUMSON – Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to go to New York City Sunday, Sept. 21, to participate in the People’s Climate March. A group from Rumson Presbyterian Church will march along with many other faith communities.
The group will meet at 9 a.m. the SeaStreak Ferry in Highlands. Tickets for the ferry can be purchased through cleanwateraction.org for a subsidized rate until Sunday, Sept. 14.
The Rev. John Monroe will be preaching a sermon at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, on the spiritual response to climate change.
“People are seeing this climate crisis unfold all around them. For faith communities, the People’s Climate March is the chance to make our voices heard on the importance of caring for creation,” Monroe said. “Our message to anyone anywhere concerned about the way the climate crisis will impact our jobs, health, children and communities is simple: Join us.”
The march is scheduled to take place just two days before President Obama and world leaders attend a historic Climate Summit at the United Nations.
