RUMSON — Ship to Shore will be the theme of renowned Monmouth County artist Santo Pezzutti’s one person, two-day show and sale at Canvas Studio Art in November.
Pezzutti, a renaissance man of 92, has been painting since childhood and his work has been recognized and honored for decades. He is included yearly in the prestigious Who’s Who In American Art.
The fall show and sale, the first large exhibit for Pezzutti in three years, will be held the weekend of Nov. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at Canvas Studio Art’s 126 East River Road, Rumson location.
Some 80 paintings, posters and prints – from as small as 16×20 to 30×40 inch wall canvases – will be on display and available for purchase. The artist will be present both days to meet visitors and discuss his work. A resident of the Jersey Shore for a half-century, Pezzutti has painted everything that makes the Monmouth County’s shoreline so unique. Print images and originals in oil, watercolors and acrylic include historic Coast Guard beach rescue stations at Monmouth Beach and Sandy Hook. In addition, he will exhibit other “Shore” paintings of sailboats and beach scenes as well as a variety of additional themes including equestrian, gardens, colorful people and much more.
Prints of the artist’s popular rendering of the Red Bank train station in its mid-19th century glory will be on exhibit as well as the historic Monmouth Boat Club site, and Asbury Park’s Tilly amusement park fun face.
Pezzutti is the respected patriarch and dean of the Monmouth County arts community. He has been active in the Monmouth County Arts Council since its inception and has been an artistic force for decades.
The artist continues to actively create, exhibit and sell award-winning works of fine art well past the time when most nonagenarians would have retired their brushes. His style continues to evolve as he explores different subjects and mediums.
A native of northern Italy, Pezzutti arrived in the United States in at age 5.
A graduate of the Franklin School of Art, his early career included time as a designer and art director on Madison Avenue and with his own company. He continues to design advertising and packaging for commercial companies.
An active racing sailor, Pezzutti has been the premier Sanderling (cat boat) skipper on the Navesink River and beyond out of the Monmouth Boat Club. In 2014, he again won the fleet’s Bay race off of Sandy Hook.
The artist has had several one-person gallery shows in New York and New Jersey and as far away as Georgia and Florida.
He describes his working method as “stream of consciousness.” “I never strive for photographic realism,” Pezzutti says,” but instead flow with the dictates of design, color, and texture and always respecting the nature of the medium.”
Art critic Will Grant, in speaking about Pezzutti, says, “…his art possesses all this power because it convinces us of the reality of the scene he describes.”
The show is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. There is no admission charge.
