WEST LONG BRANCH – Shore Players, Shore Regional’s renowned theater program, announces its 52nd season. “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” will play the Shore Regional stage Dec. 5-8, with a sneak performance for senior citizens on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Next on tap will be the Bob Fosse classic, “Sweet Charity” in March.
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a 1967 musical comedy based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts.
The musical gives the audience a look at an average day in the life of Charlie Brown. The family-friendly performance is made up of little moments picked from the days of Charlie Brown – from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair – all mixed in with the lives of his friends, both human and nonhuman, and strung together on the string of a single day from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening.
Some familiar Shore Players faces bring to life the characters we know and love, including Jake Cameron (Charlie Brown), Michael Sweeney (Linus), Hannah Stone (Lucy), Julianna Bristol (Sally), Thomas Dougherty (Schroeder) and Emily Mitro (Snoopy).
“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a funny, heartwarming musical for the entire family.
Performances will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5; 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.
A special preview performance for senior citizens will be offered at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. All tickets at the door are $12.
Tickets are available by calling 732-222-9300, ext. 2550, or emailing to shoreplayers tix@shoreregional.org.
In March, the Shore Players will be presenting “Sweet Charity.” Adapted from “Nights of Cabiria,” a film by Federico Fellini, “Sweet Charity” tells the story of an optimistic young woman, Charity, who not only wears her heart on her sleeve, she’s had it tattooed to her arm!
Featuring hit songs like “Big Spender,” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” the original Broadway production was nominated for 12 Tony awards, and was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse.
Details about performances of “Sweet Charity,” will be announced during the coming months.
Shore Regional High School is located at 132 Monmouth Park Highway 36.
