On March 25, St. Leo the Great School’s eighth grade students participated in a prayer service of the visual presentation of “Living Stations of the Cross.” The Stations of the Cross are symbolically important in the Catholic Church during Lenten season, especially on Good Friday. They allow participants to meditate over the different stages that occurred around the time of Christ’s crucifixion.
“One of the most cherished devotions particularly during the Lenten season is the Stations of the Cross,” said Rev. John Folchetti, pastor. “We want to inculcate in our young people a love for this devotion and help strengthen it by their active participation in the presentation of the stations with visual enhancement.”
The programs director, Ada McCarthy, added: “This gives our eighth grade students a chance to shine as role models for our younger students.”
The presentation was held at St. Leo the Great Church. It fully embraced all 14 Stations of the Cross.
Principal Cornelius Begley concluded, “It is a great opportunity for our eighth grade students to be part of the visual presentation of the Stations of the Cross because it brings to life the reality of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for our salvation. This re-enactment aids all of our students, especially the young, to develop a deeper faith.”
