Adults can enter the 50/50 drawing and participate in a chance auction featuring prizes for family-fun activities in the parks. Adding to the day’s festivities will be live music and refreshments. Artists drawing caricatures will be on hand. All proceeds support the therapeutic riding program.
SPUR is a nonprofit organization that partners with the Monmouth County Park System to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to participate in the therapeutic riding program. Certified instructors work with more than 100 volunteers and serve more than 200 students each year. During these lessons, students find limitations are replaced by the freedom of riding and handling a horse. The experience helps improve self-esteem, social skills, balance, muscle tone and posture. Riding can also improve the brain’s ability to process sensory messages.
