As part of Black History Month observances, the annual acknowledgement of African American achievements and their significant place in U.S. history, the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center will hold a series of events titled “Out of Africa.”

The borough council unanimously adopted a resolution authorizing a separation agreement with Clifford Keen, director of public utilities, at its meeting Jan. 11. The council did not discuss the reason for the separation agreement or details of Keen’s replacement.

Much of the darkly funny play “Living & Breathing,” which premieres at the Two River Theater Jan. 28, is based on the real-life experiences of its writer, Mando Alvarado, and the relationships he formed with his male friends.

Not much has changed in 33 seasons at Red Bank Catholic. Joe Montano is still the fiery leader of the Caseys Girls Basketball team and still winning games. Following a 44-36 win over Scranton Prep last Saturday at home, Montano reached his 700th career win becoming just the sixth girls basketball coach in New Jersey history to reach the milestone.

The council chamber was full for the annual reorganization meeting Jan. 4, as the borough nears a transition to a nonpartisan form of government.

The format was different, but the result was the same: For the second straight year, Red Bank Catholic girls basketball is a WOBM Christmas Classic champion following three wins in Toms River to close out 2022.
