TRT Boys Basketball Player of the Year

597

Pat Andree, CBA (Sr.)
He shattered the stereotype that a big man has to spend the entire time around the basket.  But 6-foot-8 forward Pat Andree demonstrated the kind of range that any guard would relish. In a game against East Orange, Andree looked like Steph Curry when he launched seven three pointers from way beyond NBA range at Pine Belt Arena in Toms River. Averaging 23 points per game in his senior season, Andree became CBA’s all-time leading scorer on January 19th against Howell passing Bob Roma.  Pat finished just shy of the 2000 point mark for his career.
No matter what the situation, or how intense the game got, Andree was always on an even keel.  That mental toughness is a huge intangible to go along with his complete skill set that he brings to Pennsylvania where he will look to make an immediate impact in the Patriot League for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.
CBA basketball prides itself on tradition and legacy.  It may take a long time for Pat Andree to appreciate the fact that he stands at the top of the mountain of a rich and proud program.  It’s that humble attitude that makes him the new gold standard in Colts hoops.
Two River Times All-Area Boys Basketball Team
First Team
Guard
SPORTS - Brendan BarryBrendan Barry, Rumson-Fair Haven (Sr.)
Stats: 25.7 points per game, 67 three-pointers made
Best Moment: It’s very hard to choose one.  A 50 point game against Middletown North raised eyebrows, a dunk in the playoffs against Johnson put the RFH Dawgpound in a frenzy, but the top moment had to be the three pointer against rival Manasquan that gave “B” the Rumson-Fair Haven all-time leading scoring record.
Barry is so quiet and humble, which made the celebration of his career so meaningful.  Brendan clearly fed off the energy of a loyal student section and his teammates to deliver a tremendous high school career.  During his stellar senior campaign, he began to pick up a number of Division I offers and will be making his decision in the coming weeks.
Guard
SPORTS - Nyquan McCombsNyquan McCombs, Mater Dei Prep (Sr.)
Stats: 12.1 points per game
Best Moment: 18 points, 6 assists on February 4th against Ranney.  McCombs took on the scoring role and frustrated the super talented freshman point guard Bryan Antoine for a second straight game.
Head coach Ben Gamble would be the first to agree that McCombs is one of the most underrated guards in New Jersey.  A great defender who controlled the game and a team that had an amazing 26-2 record highlighted by a Shore Conference championship.
Guard
SPORTS - lloyd danielsLloyd Daniels, Colts Neck (Sr.)
Stats: 18.2 points per game
Best Moment: 18 points vs. Freehold Township in Central Jersey Group 4 Finals.  His best moment was not a bucket, but the wide decision to pass in the midst of a double team to feed Brendan Clarke who delivered a buzzer beater and the Cougars first sectional championship.
Daniels played his best basketball during the Cougars run to a championship.  His body of work and accomplishments were worthy of post-season honors, but it was his performance in the playoffs that vaulted him to many All-Shore first teams.
Forward
SPORTS - Elijah Barnes Mater DeiElijah Barnes, Mater Dei Prep (Jr.)
Stats: 11.3 points per game
Best Moment: 11 points, 7 rebounds, 7 blocked shots against Point Pleasant Beach on January 21st.  One of the best highlights of the year was Barnes swatting a shot, running down the floor and throwing down an emphatic slam.
The transfer from Central Regional was a great post presence for a Mater Dei team that had many scoring options.  A great student-athlete who should get Division I opportunities on the recruiting trail.
Forward
SPORTS - Scottie LewisScottie Lewis, Ranney (Fr.)
Stats: 15.9 points, 8.3 rebounds per game
Best Moment: 13 points, 9 rebounds, 8 blocked shots against Red Bank Regional in the Albert E. Martin Buc Classic championship game.  It was a big moment for four freshman starters that sparked a 22-4 season.
Bryan Antoine and Lewis had so much hype heading into the start of their high school careers and the duo met it and then some.  Both players will be among the highest recruited high school players in America and have great maturity for their age.
