Area residents stopped and remembered loved ones and those they did not know who were killed on Sept. 11, 2001, during the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa.
Several memorial ceremonies were planned for the day, including a 6 p.m. ceremony by the Red Bank Elks Lodge No. 233 at Riverside Gardens Park, West Front Street. The service will be conducted in the area of the borough’s memorial to residents who perished that day. Following the service, the Elks will host a light repast at the lodge, located next to the part at 40 West Front St.
During the morning, members of the Middletown Township Committee paid silent tribute at 8:46 a.m. to the 37 residents who died in the World Trade Center tragedy with a wreath laying at the Middletown World Trade Center Memorial Gardens.
