United Way Holding Annual ‘Stuff the Bus’ Drive for School Supplies

United Way of Monmouth County’s annual Stuff the Bus school-supply drive will be held at five locations during the month of August to meet the growing demand for school supplies in the community.
The drive is designed to help ensure that all children in Monmouth County begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.
Stuff the Bus events will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following stores, where shoppers are invited to purchase and donate new school supplies on site:

• Aug. 3 at Target of Middletown
• Aug. 9 at Walmart of Freehold
• Aug. 10 at Target of Manalapan
• Aug. 16 at Target of Howell
• Aug. 17 at Target of Ocean

“Working directly with local schools, we have been able to identify those items needed most by our area children,” says Timothy Hearne, president and CEO of United Way of Monmouth County. “Providing educational supplies helps support a child’s ability to learn while removing some of the financial burden from parents, many of whom are struggling. Many of these children have been further impacted by the effects of Super Storm Sandy, so these donations are needed now more than ever.”
In addition to offering an opportunity to donate school supplies, each site offers volunteers a way to give their time to the drive. Volunteers are needed at each of the community events, and also to help sort donations throughout the month of August.
Interested volunteers should register by contacting United Way of Monmouth County at 732-938-5988, ext. 2042.
More than 20 United Way corporate partners also will be collecting donations for the 2013 Stuff the Bus drive.
Area groups and local businesses are welcome to hold their own school supply collections, which will become part of the Stuff the Bus drive.
