Dorothy L. VanLeeuwen, 96, of Union Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Feb. 25. She was born Dorothy L. Braun on Nov. 20, 1919, in Kearny at West Hudson Hospital. She was currently residing in Union Beach with her loving son, Peter.
Throughout Dorothy’s life, she worked in the food service industry and, for many years, worked in the kitchen at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. After her retirement at Riverview, she also worked for a period of time as a security guard.
She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Florence (Harrison) Braun; her beloved husband, Bastiaan VanLeeuwen; and her daughter, Susan Florence VanLeeuwen.
Dorothy is survived by her loving and devoted son, Peter B. VanLeeuwen of Union Beach; her cherished grandchildren, Peter B. VanLeeuwen Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Patrina Ford and her husband Brian of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Nicole Zigler and her husband Douglas of Highlands; along with four adored great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
