Judith J. Woodward (Judy), 83, Shrewsbury, formerly from Red Bank, passed away peacefully April 12. Born in 1935 in Red Bank, she was a resident of the borough most of her life.

Mrs. Woodward was a graduate of Red Bank Regional High School Class of 1952. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles (Charlie) in 1953. While in high school, Mrs. Woodward worked in her mother’s hat shop, The Bonnet Shop, in Red Bank, and helped design ladies’ hats. A loving, full-time mom and wife, Mrs. Woodward decided to return to the work force when their children were in high school. She became her husband’s secretary at Woodward Construction Company, where she ran a tight ship for over 20 years.

Mrs. Woodward was involved in the PTA at Oakland Street School while her children were in attendance there. She helped organize and set up the school’s first library. After retirement, Mrs. Woodward again got involved in volunteering in a school, this time helping her daughter in the nurse’s office at Red Bank Catholic High School.

Judy enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. Trips included cruises to the Caribbean Islands, Alaska, Greek Islands and Canada. In addition, she also traveled to Hawaii, Germany, Italy, Spain and England.

Family time was what Judy loved most of all. Attending, cheering and supporting children and grandchildren at various sporting events and activities gave her much pride and joy. For many years, ritual “Sunday Night Suppers” at the Woodward home with children and grandchildren in attendance provided the quality time that instilled the importance of family, which will be a part of Judy’s legacy.

Daughter of the late Joseph J. Mazza and Tillie DiFiore Mazza, she is also predeceased by her beloved husband, Charlie, a granddaughter, Caroline Stuart Woodward, and her son-in-law, Mark F. Hemschoot. Mrs. Woodward is survived by her sister, Dorothy Corson (husband Gary); her children Debora Woodward Hemschoot, Charles Brett Woodward (wife Alexandra), and David Joseph Woodward (wife Jennifer); grandchildren Jeffrey Woodward Hemschoot (wife Gretchen), David Charles Hemschoot (wife Kathleen), Corinne Woodward Karl (husband Patrick), Charles Kenneth Woodward III, Robert Charles Woodward, Ryan Brett Woodward and Brittany Alexis Woodward. In addition, she had five great-grandchildren, Luke, Mark, Quinn, Matthew and Andrew Hemschoot.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank. Pastor Steve Brown, from the First Baptist Church of Red Bank, where Mrs. Woodward was a member, will conduct a memorial service at Thompson Memorial Home at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2.
