Kenneth D. Wright, 95, Long Branch, passed away May 18 at home.

Kenneth was born March 6, 1923 in the old Monmouth Memorial Hospital in Long Branch. He was the son of John F. Wright and Olga Fleet. Married to Marcia Huntwork of Riverside, California in 1945, they had two sons. He is survived by Richard Denison Wright, of Venice, Florida and Robert Demmon Wright of Ft. Worth, Texas; a grandson, Kelly Christopher, Ft. Worth; and a stepson, Raymond Osborne of Odessa, Missouri. Also surviving are two nieces, Connie Winder and Patty Hanson and two nephews, Danny and Dustin, all of Madera, California. Kenneth was predeceased by his sister Janice Winder in 2008.

He divorced in 1962, to marry June LaVance Osborne. June passed in April 2002, just after celebrating 40 years of marriage.

Kenneth met in June of 2006 a local Long Branch girl, Angie Dowd. They enjoyed the relationship, reviewing the past, living the present and planning the future.

Kenneth graduated from Long Branch High School in 1941 and entered civilian government service immediately following graduation as an apprentice instrument maker at Ft. Monmouth. In December 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Force, serving three years, two of which were in the European Theatre of Operation as a corporal.

Upon return after war’s end, he returned to the machinist trade at Ft. Monmouth, working intermittently for 33 years with the government.

Starting in 1950, he became a contract builder of homes for the next 10 years, locally. For the next 13 years as a local tile contractor. He lived in Ocean Township for 50 years before returning to Long Branch. Kenneth and his father spent a year on Sanibel Island, Florida with his family, taking on the construction and running of a motel shortly after the Sanibel Causeway was completed. The motel was situated on the gulf, on Gulf Drive, originally named “The Caribe Adventure.”

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church; he was a past commander of Long Branch Post 44 American Legion, a past president of the Long Branch Community Club and was still active in the Ocean Township Senior Friendship Club, having served as secretary.

Visitation will be Friday, May 25 at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch.
