Singer-songwriter Aimee Mann

Mann has been a fixture on the music scene since the early 1980s with a number of punk and new age bands, and won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist in 1987. She launched a solo career in the early ’90s and garnered Academy Award, Golden Globe and Grammy nominations for her song “Save Me” in 1999. Her latest release, “Smilers,” is her seventh solo CD.
MusicWorks is a new venture launched by Rusty Young, former CEO of the Count Basie Foundation, and Dominic Roncace, who was COO of Clear Channel Entertainment, which later became Live Nation.
Last July Young left the Basie and Roncace sold a business so that they could focus exclusively on MusicWorks. Working from offices in Red Bank they have spent the last six months getting nonprofit clients and securing artists and venues for the concerts they are staging. MusicWorks specializes in event production for both nonprofit and for profit organizations, live entertainment consulting and concert promotion and production.
Friday’s show at the Two River Theatre is their first concert.
“We believe that we can use music to make a difference,“  Young says. “Non profits have been having a difficult time raising the money they need to support their programs or build/restore their facilities. We can’t think of a better way to help.”
Tickets are $49 – $89 and can be purchased at the Two River Theater box office, online at trtc.org or by phone, (732) 345-1400.
