John J. Borelli Sr., 90, of Red Bank, entered into His forever journey on Saturday September 5, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Red Bank and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1944. John was a member of the “Tigers Club,” a neighborhood baseball club that was sponsored by the West End Tavern, which was owned by his parents. The boys were affectionately known as the“Westside Kids” as opposed to the Eastside Kids made famous in the movies of that time period.
John was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. Upon his return from military service, John attended Drake Business College for Business Administration with majors in accounting and finance. He worked for Sears & Roebuck for many years and bowled with their league. Upon leaving Sears & Roebuck, he was co-owner and operator of Better Housekeeping, Inc., in Middletown from 1968 until his retirement in 1994.
John loved to golf and garden and he was very good at thoroughbred horse racing handicapping. John traveled the “Horse Circuit” with his family members visiting many tracks on the east coast. He was a longtime communicant of St Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Red Bank.
John was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale ‘Patsy” and Rose Mary Borelli; his wife, Julia J. Borelli; and his brother, Joseph A. Borelli who died in Enzio, Italy, during WWII. John is survived by his two children, John J. Borelli Jr. and Patricia A. Borelli, both of Eatontown; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Vanessa, and Vincent; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 11 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at St Anthony of Padua Church, 121 Bridge Ave, Red Bank. Interment will fol- low at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
