Herbert “Buddy” E. Bush, 90, died on May 17, peacefully at his home in Rumson, where he lived for 72 years with his wife of 69 years. Gloria passed in 2013. He mourned for her every day.

Buddy was predeceased in 1967 by his son Herbert R. Bush, “Skipper,” who was a member of the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his beloved daughters Bonnie Ciambrone (Joseph, deceased) and Jennifer Tobias and her husband Richard.

Buddy was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during World War II. He then worked as a machinist and manager with Bendix Corporation until his retirement.

He was a life member of the Rumson Volunteer Fire Company since 1946 and Chief in 1964. Buddy was the oldest living member at the department having served for 69 years.

Buddy’s main focus was home and family. He is remembered by his neighbors for grooming his stone driveway daily with a gravel rake. He always enjoyed having a project. He built a ski jump and hand-crafted water skis with his brother-in-law Raymond Eckhoff. A member of the Jersey Skeeters, he spent many happy hours boating on the Navesink River.

His most satisfying role was as Poppie to his beloved grandchildren, Anthony and Ann Ciambrone, Alicia Tobias, Joseph Ciambrone, Richard Jr. and Heather Tobias, Adam and Krista Tobias.

He was blessed to be a great-grandfather to Olivia and Cecila Ciambrone, twins Richard III and Jack Tobias, and Ellee and Danny. He will be greatly missed by his dear, devoted sister Joyce Eckhoff. He leaves behind as well cousins, nieces and nephews in the Eckhoff and Ott families.

Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of the arrangements. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
