Margaret J. Canale died at home Sept. 18. Margaret was born July 24, 1924 in Long Branch. She was a graduate of Long Branch High School. She moved from Brooklyn to Shrewsbury in 1955 and was a communicant at St. Dorothea Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the guild of St. Dorothea.

Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Joseph A. Canale; her parents Earle and Jennie Havens; and her sister Bessie Wolcott.

She is survived by her children, Margaret McCabe and her husband John of Great Falls, Virginia, Patricia Sams and her husband Charles of Monmouth Beach, Pamela Myers of Red Bank, Joseph Canale and his wife Caridad of Wanamassa, Robert Canale and his wife Patricia of West Long Branch, and Nicole Doty and her husband Daniel of Oceanport; 15 grandchildren, John McCabe, Luke McCabe, Megan Moniodis, Patricia Hartl, Matthew Sams, Heather Pierson, Richard Myers, Lourdes, Ana Christina, Joseph Canale, Marisa Russomanno, Adriana and Rosanna Canale, and Emma and Elizabeth Doty; and 11 great-grandchildren, Jack, Josephine, Madeline, Grace, Michael, Charlotte, Luisa, Antonia, Mia, Fiona and Blaise. A special thanks to Valerie Coates, our mother’s long-time caregiver.

She was her children’s most trusted confident and their best friend, devoted to the caring of her family. Her children will remember her unfailing faith and boundless energy. Along with her beauty, she will be remembered for her sense of style and her impeccable taste in everything she did.

A visitation was held Sept. 24 at John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial took place Sept. 25 at St. Dorothea Roman Catholic Church in Eatontown with a burial following at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown.
