F. Don Chapin of Highlands died on Dec. 4 at the age of 92. He lived most of his life in Rumson and moved to Highlands in 2008.

Don was born in Jersey City on Jan. 15, 1925 to the late Dorothy O. Schatzkin.

He grew up in New York City and Mamaroneck, New York where he attended the Collegiate School, Mamaroneck High School, and Pace University. During World War II he served bravely in five major European battles, including the invasion of Normandy Beach, France. He was awarded over 20 medals, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He married the love of his life, Lorna Mary Hewes of Larchmont, New York, in 1948. He enjoyed a long career as an insurance salesman. Don’s vegetable garden was his pride and joy.

Don was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Lorna, and survived by his four children: Donna, Diane, Craig and Bradley, and Brad’s wife Sharon. He leaves four grandchildren: Corey, Sara, Elizabeth and Kyle.
