Robert F. Chrystal, 85, of Matawan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel. Robert was born on July 19, 1930 in Newark, where he grew up. When he was 18 years old, Robert moved to Belmar with his family. On Jan. 26, 1957, he and his wife, Audrey, were married and began their life together. Shortly after in 1963, they settled in Matawan to raise their family, where they have remained.
Throughout Robert’s life, he was a manager for New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and was currently retired. He was also a proud United States Air Force veteran, where he served during the Korean Conflict.
He was predeceased by his parents, Earl and Loretta (Salmon) Chrystal; his brother, Earl Chrystal; and his grand-daughter, Alexis Kristen Carnahan.
Robert is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Audrey P. (Heaney)Â Chrystal; and his loving children, Kathleen Bloomer and her husband Robert of Toms River, Donna Chrystal of Hazlet, Robert Chrystal Jr. of Matawan, and Stacey Zinni and her husband Anthony of Holmdel. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jane Rietzke; his cherished grandchildren, Thomas Carroll, Megan Carroll, Christopher Carnahan, Leann Carnahan, Sean Carnahan, Robert Chrystal II, Anthony M. Zinni, Samantha Zinni and Michael Zinni; and his adored great-grandchildren, Alexis, Ava, and Arianna. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet, was in charge of arrangements.
