Charlotte Clime (formerly Schatzle), 79 of Colts Neck, left our world on Saturday June 17 in Winter Haven, Florida, while vacationing with friends. Charlotte was born January 7, 1938, the only child of Les and Margaret (Fagan) Clime in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was cared for in her early days and still loved by “Aunt” Dorothy M. Buzzard, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a young girl she became an accomplished dancer and teacher of dance. “Miss Charlotte” opened her first School of Dance at the age of 16, toured the country with dance troupes and successfully operated three studio locations throughout Philadelphia until 1967.
Charlotte and her family moved to Colts Neck in 1968 where she worked tirelessly to raise her children. Both Charlotte and her mother, “Nanny Clime,” worked throughout town as babysitters and caregivers to an entire generation of Colts Neck’s children. Both kind and sweet women are loved and missed by so many. During this time, Charlotte even earned her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree and continued to serve those in need.
Charlotte answered to many names throughout her lifetime – “Miss Charlotte,” Mom, Grandma Charlotte, G.C., just G, Ya Ya and finally G.G., – but always Friend. It was not uncommon for her children to hear, after a hello, “How’s your mother? She’s one of the sweetest and kindest people we know!”
Charlotte’s kindness was evident through her dedication to service to others. From the time she arrived in Colts Neck she began her volunteerism by being a Girl Scout leader, a member and officer of The Woman’s Club of Colts Neck, a fundraiser and volunteer at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Cub Scout den mother, Colts Neck Fair committee member, and founder and chairwoman of “The Great American Apple Pie Contest,” sponsored by The Woman’s Club of Colts Neck.
Surviving to carry on Charlotte’s message of kindness and love, are her three children: Debi Schatzle Baker of Waterbury, Connecticut, Cindi Westendorf and her husband Russell of Colts Neck and former Colts Neck Mayor Jim Schatzle of Colts Neck; her “half dozen” grandsons, Bryan Baker and his wife Kerri of Waterbury, Connecticut, Captain Daniel Westendorf and his wife Laura of San Diego, California, Nicholas Westendorf of Houston, Texas, Chase Westendorf of Houston, Texas, Jimmy Schatzle of Colts Neck and Jack Schatzle of Colts Neck. Also left behind to remember their G.G., are Charlotte’s newest loves, her great-grandchildren, Drew and Maggie Baker of Waterbury, Connecticut.
