Brian G. Dougherty, 69, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully Aug. 19. Brian was born in Jersey City, where he spent his early childhood until 1958 when his family moved to Wall, where he grew up. In 1979, Brian settled in Aberdeen and has lived there since.

Brian began his career in law enforcement in the borough of Brielle, where he served from 1973 to 1975. On Sept. 27, 1979, Brian became a patrolman in Aberdeen, was promoted to sergeant April 18, 1987, promoted again to deputy chief July 15, 1989 and finally earned the rank of chief Jan. 1, 1992, where he remained until 2003. Brian was also a veteran of the United States military and exemplified a lifetime career of service to his country and community.

Brian is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Catherine Dougherty, and his brother, Robert Dougherty Jr. Brian is survived by his dear brother Greg Dougherty and wife Suzanne, of Newport Richey, Florida; his loving sister Mary Frances Pearlstein and her husband David, of Spring Hill, Florida; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Family and friends were invited to visit Aug. 24 and 25 at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Aug. 25 at St. Joseph Church, Keyport. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
